Example
after a final e only add d
love – loved
final consonant after a short, stressed vowel or l as final consonant after a vowel is doubled
admit – admitted travel – travelled
final y after a consonant becomes i
hurry – hurried

The Form


Affirmative sentence
S + verb 2 + complement.
Examples:
She read a book in the library last day.
We sang a beautiful song in the hall last month.
They travelled to Raja Ampat two weeks ago.

Negative sentence
S + did + not + verb base + complement
Examples:
I did not sleep in the room last night.
She did not go to Bali a year ago.
The dog did not eat banana.

Interrogative sentence
Did + S + verb base + complement?
Examples:
Did you speak to your teacher about the test?
Did Andrea come to the party last day?
Did we send the letter to aunt Dina?

To Be Past


Affirmative sentence
S + Was/ Were + complement
She was here a few minutes ago.
They were happy.
I was hungry at the time.
We were upset.
The cat was thirsty.

Negative sentence
S + was / were + not + complement
Examples:
We were not hungry.
They were not sad.
She was not sleepy all the way.

Interrogative sentence
Was / Were + s + complement?
Examples:
Was she happy yesterday?
Were they here last year?
Were I lonely a week ago?
